Is there a way to add compression to the prog? like adding the codec in the folder or pointing a dll or something?

He who builds it dosn't want it,
he who wants it dosn't need it,
he who needs it dosn't know it.
What is it?

Good guess on the riddle, sounds right to me.

This will be added to the codecs list. You can find a compiled list of compression codecs here:

I know that I'm not the admin, but if I might make a suggestion. The XVid codec is, I believe, the simplest codec to use with as much compression as it has. VFW is the simplest, overall, but provides poor results. DivX is the best, but is more complicated to understand. XVid is my preference...

Oh and the answer to nardsinc's riddle is a coffin

Here are some helpful utilities for viewing which codecs are installed on your system:

Note: These are popular freeware titles offered with out warranty of any kind so use at your own risk. They are not required to run WCSS.

G-Spot
http://www.divx-digest.tv/software/codec/gspot21.zip

AVIcodec
http://avicodec.duby.info/ftp/avicod108.exe

These can aid in identifying problems if you have them.

When looking for codecs for WCSS version 1.0, you should select a codec which is of the type VFW (Video For Windows).

Here are some options and our results:

VP61® Advanced Profile from On2.com
http://on2.com/downloads/vp6-decoder/
Recorded: 5 seconds Video & Audio
File Size: 155 KB

ffvfw video encoder DS from free-codecs.com
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/ffvfw.htm
Recorded: 5 seconds of Video & Audio
File Size: 501 KB

Click a url above to download and once you run set-up the codecs will install themselves. Select Camera Options --> Compression Options from the menu in WCSS and select your new codec from the dropdown box.

We have yet to test other possible VFW codecs but above two have worked. If you have any problems or suggestions for this please let us know.

Once version 2 is released you will have a wider selection of codecs to use for both audio and video as it uses Direct X rather than VFW.

Yea, Ive got the Nemo Codec Pack installed which has like 30-40 codecs. Is there a spacific one that works for you.

he who wants it dosn't need it,
he who needs it dosn't know it.

UPDATED 9/26/2005: Yes this is possible. Please view the posts below this one for information on how to add VFW compression codecs.

For now there is not a direct way to load a specific codec. Version 2.0 will support this and allow you to directly select which compression codecs you want to use for both audio and video. You may want to try installing additional codecs on your machine. There are free codecs available at: http://www.free-codecs.com/

Version 2.0 we hope to have available shortly. The primary focus has been fixing bugs in version 1.0.
